Panaji: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) had to postpone its special meeting scheduled today after office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) raised question over holding of the meeting when the election model code of conduct is in force.

The Board had scheduled its special meeting today to decide upon various agenda with regards to granting additional permissions for coal handling at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT). While SWPL had sought Consent to Operate for enhanced coal handling capacity from 4.8 million metric tons per annum to 5.5 million metric tons per annum, MPT had also requested for coal handling permission at its mooring dolphin.

However, a lawyer Sunaina Chari made complaint to CEO pointing to the violation of code, which is in force due to the ensuing Lok Sabha polls and by-elections in three assembly constituencies.

Accordingly, Deputy CEO Sangeeta Naik and District Election Officer IAS R Menaka sought explanation from the Board with proper reasoning for holding the meeting. CEO also directed the Board to seek special permission from the screening committee of the government headed by Chief Secretary for holding the meeting.

As such, pending clearance from the screening committee, the Board was forced to postpone its meeting.
