Panaji: The Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted by the union government will submit its report on resumption of mining in Goa to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union Mines Minister Prahlad Joshi told reporters in Goa on Monday that the group of ministers have been meeting frequently on the issue during which the report on resumption of mining activity in Goa is discussed.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met Joshi in Panaji where latter was down to address a press conference on bold decisions taken by Narendra Modi-led government in the centre during last hundred days.

“Prime Minister has insisted that early decision should be taken on the issue of starting mining in Goa and we will be submitting a report to him suggesting the solutions for the same,” Joshi said.

The Iron Ore mining activity has come to a standstill since more than one year affecting livelihood of around two lakh people in the coastal state. The mines were closed after Supreme Court quashed 88 mining leases in the State.

Talking to reporters after meeting Joshi, Sawant said that the central government is positively working towards resuming the mining activity. “GoM will submit its report to the Prime Minister.  GoM has been meeting frequently over the issue and has prepared a detailed report,” he said.

Sawant said that Goa government has given their inputs to be embedded in the report, which are being considered on priority.

The GoM has been considering the mining activity in the entire country which is going to stop in the year 2020. “They are treating Goa’s case differently and solution will be worked out by November this year,” he said.
