Panaji: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Sunday condemned the alleged conduct of Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi during the rendition of Vande Mataram.
In a post on his X handle, the chief minister said that the conduct of Smt Sonia Gandhi, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Shri Rahul Gandhi during the rendition of Vande Mataram at the Congress Independence Day programme deserves condemnation.
“Vande Mataram inspired generations during our freedom struggle. It deserves reverence and respect, not indifference,” he said.
The controversy erupted after an Independence Day function at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, where BJP leaders accused Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of disrespecting Vande Mataram during its rendition.
The Congress rejected the allegations, saying Sonia Gandhi’s gestures were related to arranging a chair for Kharge.
