Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced the plans to establish School of Law and Governance in Goa University in the name of former CM late Manohar Parrikar.

Sawant also said that the state government would conduct the examinations of Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) in Konkani along with English to provide level playing field to all the youth.

The chief minister was addressing a gathering after unveiling Konkani Research Paper ‘Sasay’ at Goa University, which would be a regular feature of this state-run institution (University).

Sawant said that School of Law and Governance is scheduled to be set up at Goa University which would be named after former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar recognizing  his contribution to the state.

“We have already budgeted Rs ten crore for this special project for which separate infrastructure would be created within Goa University. The expertise of all the law colleges would be taken to conceive this unique project,” he said.

The chief minister appealed Goa University authorities to take lead in accomplishing this project, which would see day of the light in few months from now.

Sawant said that Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) should also hold its examination in Konkani language, on lines with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). He said that this would provide level playing field for all the youth, who are weak in English language to compete with others.

Pointing out that states like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have their own Anthem, Sawant urged the writers to pen an Anthem for the State which would be played during all the important occasions.

“The department of Official Languages will be given responsibility to chose the Anthem, which will depict the ethos and culture of Goa to the world,” he said.

The chief minister also said that State should have its unique souvenir which will reflect the culture of the state.

“When we think of what to gift to the guests during state level functions, we don’t have common souvenir like other states have of their own. We should decide on our souvenir,” he said.

Speaking in a lighter vein, Sawant said that the things like cashew nuts or feni comes to the mind when anyone decides to present a souvenir.
