Goa requisitions hotels, private hospitals to tackle emergency

Panaji: Goa government has begun requisitioning private hotels and hospitals to use them as temporary quarantine centres in case of any emergency situation arises in the state due to COVID-19 outbreak.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane told reporters that few of the private hotels and two hospitals, one in each district, have been requisitioned by state government, along with its staff as a measure to tackle any eventuality in the case of coronavirus outbreak in the state.

Rane said that the staff of those establishments would be given protective gears and oriented on how to handle the coronavirus suspects.

The Health minister said that there are only three positive cases of coronavirus infection has been reported in the state, but all the arrangements are made considering the emergency situation.

In an important revelation,  Rane said that all the three patients who have tested positive had mixed with the people, before they were taken to quarantine facility.

He appealed the people who have come from outside the state to remain home quarantined and get themselves checked.

The minister said government is also contemplating the possibility of taking home quarantined patients into specially set up facilities so that they don’t mingle with others.

Rane said that the people should take social distancing seriously so as to avoid spread of the virus.
