Flight operations at Goa airport affected

Vasco: The flight operations at Goa Airport were affected this afternoon after the runway was closed for landings due to jettisoned fuel tank of Indian Navy’s Mig29-K fighter aircraft.

A senior Airport official said that the operations were shut down around 2 p.m. and will be resumed only after 4.30 p.m.

“The departures are happening from the airport but landings have been stopped till runway is repaired,” he said.

In the afternoon, Goa Airport tweeted “Due to jettisoned fuel tank on runway during MiG sortie, the operations are closed for two hours at Goa airport. Please bear with us.”

Goa airport is a part of Indian Navy’s INS Hansa airbase which is home for several fighter squadrons including Mig29-K.

He said that exact data of the flights which were diverted due to the incident was not available.
