FDA destroys 200 kgs of Banana riped artificially

Panaji: Food and Drugs Administration in its drive against artificially ripened Bananas have destroyed 200 kgs of the fruit from Mapusa market on Wednesday.

FDA has said “as part of our surveillance drive to check the use of chemicals used for ripening of Bananas, another 12 banana vendor premises were inspected.”

“The premises and surrounding areas were also thoroughly inspected for the use of Ethapone chemical. In one such premise; shop no 8 and 9 which was operated by Hanif Sheikh, a bottle of plant growth regulator Ethapone was found in his cupboard.”

“Further to which, the stock of 200kg bananas available with him was taken up for destruction in the interest of public health with the help of Mapusa Municipal Council.”
