Panaji: The family members of Goa Freedom Fighters ended their six-day-long hunger strike on Thursday after BJP Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade assured them to fulfill all their demands.

Several family members of the freedom fighters had begun fast-unto-death at Azad Maidan in Panaji since January 22 demanding government jobs for their children.

The family members had demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should personally assured them to give the jobs. The issue was raised on the floor of the House during ongoing legislative assembly session by Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte.

Sawant had assured to fulfill the demands of striking families by March 31, 2021.

On Thursday, Tanavade went to meet the agitating family members at Azad Maidan, where he re-assured them to fulfill their demand.

Tanavade assured that the state government will stick to its assurance of providing government jobs.

After the assurance, the family members withdrew their fast-unto-death.

During last six days, couple of striking family members had taken ill at the protest site.
