Bicholim: At least eleven girl students from a Higher Secondary School at Bicholim in North Goa were hospitalised after a group of fellow students sprayed a “pepper spray” on them.
A senior police official said that the incident occurred on Thursday when the classes were on. “As per the complaint received from the school management, the girl students started feeling uneasy and breathless when another group of student sprayed pepper spray on them,” he said.
Police said that all the eleven affected girl students were initially referred to Community Health Centre at Bicholim while three students were referred to District Hospital in Mapusa town.
Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye who rushed to the District hospital said that the condition of all the students are stable.
He said that majority of the students, except two, would be given a discharge.
Shetye said that police have asked management to form a disciplinary committee and investigate into the incident.
The MLA said that the management has told police that they have already suspended four students from the school for their misconduct.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar along with party MLA Carlos Ferreira also visited the students at the district hospital.
Talking to reporters, Ferreira said that it is unfortunate that the students are resorting to such kind of mischievous behaviour.
He said that some parents informed him that similar incident, in a milder form, had happened on last Friday in the school.
