Porvorim: Even as opposition benches are getting their act together to corner government on FDA issue during the first day of the Session, there is something which will give them the extra armament.
Deputy Speaker, BJP legislator and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has said that he will take up the issue of ill-equipped Food and Drugs Administration Department resulting in the polluted fish, fruit and vegetables on the floor of the House.
“I am going to take it up in a big way on the floor of the House. Unless we bring this issue in assembly it will not be settled,” Lobo said.
He said that the total ban on import of fish, as demanded by Vishwajit Rane, is not a feasible option. “You cannot permanently ban fish coming into Goa. We have to have more active FDA department,” he said.
Lobo said that FDA is totally ill-equipped and under staffed due to which these problems occur. FDA do not have proper labouratory.
The Deputy Speaker said that while Goa is gearing up to become tourism capital of India with the infrastructure like bridges and roads, we cannot have such ill-equipped FDA which needs to take care of what we eat or serve.
He said that state needs good officers in FDA.
