Customs seize Gold Paste at Dabolim Airport from International lady passenger

Vasco: Customs and Central Excise on Monday apprehended a foreign national lady at Goa Airport for illegally carrying Gold Paste hidden in specially created pocket of her pant.

Commissioner of Customs R Manohar, without revealing the identity of the accused lady, has said that Gold Paste valued at Rs eighteen lakh was found in possession of her.

“Based on intelligence developed, the Air Customs officers of Goa Customs headed by Dr Raghavendra P apprehended a lady international passenger who landed at Dabolim International airport by Air India flight number AI-994 on February 11,” he said.

“The said lady passenger had arrived from Dubai and her personal search resulted in recovery of 590 grams of Gold Paste, valued at Rs 18.08 lakh,” Manohar said.

“The said Gold Paste was in one transparent polythene packet which was concealed in pocket specially created for the purpose in her blue jeans pant around the waist band. The said Gold Paste was seized under the Customs Act, 1962,” he said.

Sine April 2018, the Air Customs of Goa Commissionerate has seized gold worth Rs 236.5 lakhs and foreign currencies equivalent to Rs 67.5 lakhs from international passengers at Dabolim International Airport, he said.
