Panaji: Congress MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira has demanded that DGP Jaspal Singh should be relieved by the chief minister and he should be booked as an abettor in Assago house demolition case.
Addressing a press conference, Ferreira said “I had always said that there is a big fish involved, a big IPS officer is involved.”
“PI has made a statement and disclosed the name. He has given details of the calls which was made and how he was being directed to take action or stop the action. My stand is vindicated. I demand that CM should immediately relieve DGP from his post. I also demand that government of Goa should put the DGP has abetter to this crime,” he said.
Alvares demanded that the matter be handed over to CBI for investigation. “I demand that all the call details between those named in the statement by PI should be obtained and their handsets should be seized so that their links are known. The players, non players, stakeholders, contractors, bouncers and other police officer which has been named, the role of each one has to be examined.”
“If you want to stop the rot, it should stop from the top. There is a man in uniform who is going to be heading the police machinery. God help us. We will never get justice. Common man would be left in a lurch on the road,” he said.
“I think if any statement is being given, they should come on the record. We will pursue this matter. I will want to find out who had approached for this compromise to cover up the names of senior ranking officials. I think, the time has come, Goa must to cleansing of the system,” Alvares added.
“The time for the CM to walk the talk that we will not spare anyone. This is not the case against that lady and family, this is a case against the state. Therefore it is duty on the part of CM to pursue this to the logical end. Goa government has no powers to suspend him.
The correct thing for the CM is to relieve him of the duties and write to the Union home ministry asking for replacement. I believe the action should be taken and find out the extent and role of each person,” he added.
