Panaji: While chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Sunday stated that those involved in anti-national movement will not be tolerated in the coastal state, police on sunday questioned the organiser of two protests, where placards demanding to free Umar Khalid were displayed.
Mapusa police on Sunday questioned Amreen Shaikh, the head of Uzvad NGO, which had called for the protests in Mapusa and Panaji town on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Police said that Shaikh was summoned to the police station Sunday evening, responding to the complaint filed with them. A group of citizens on Saturday had filed the police complaint against the protestors who had displayed placards demanding to free Umar Khalid.
Talking to reporters in Vasco, chief minister said that the police were right in taking action against those who were standing with the placards demanding release of Khalid, who has been found to be involved in anti national activities.
Sawant said that it was unfortunate that the protest held to demand action in connection with the NEET examination paper leakage, was used as a platform to paddle the anti-national agenda by sympathising with Khalid.
He said that the state government is not against any protests. “We could understand that there were protests demanding resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. But we have to see who brought these people from across the parts of the country to Goa to push this agenda of freeing Umar Khalid.” Sawant said.
The chief minister, however, said that Pradhan’s resignation should not have been sought as he was instrumental in taking action on NEET paper leak.
Sawant said that Goa is a peaceful state and no one would be allowed to disturb the peace and harmony in the state.
