Panaji: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) market remained closed on thursday as traders protested against the municipal ordinance planned to be moved by Goa Govt. “Government has neglected the plight of the market. They have failed to carry out repair work, even the bare minimum work of regularly installing new tube lights and bulbs is not being done by them,” alleged a merchant from the market. The merchants were enraged as many shops were inspected by FDI and appropriate action was taken when the shops were found to be violating laws.
CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar  justified the action of state govt saying, “Few shops were found to be selling illegal Gutka, while other had violated safety standards as we found rodents loitering around goods hence it was imperative to take action against violators.”
