Airport staff arrested for bomb hoax call in Goa

Panaji: Goa Police on Saturday arrested a 22-year-old man working at Manohar International Airport staff at Mopa in North Goa for making hoax call about planting of bomb at the Airport.

Superitendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan said that around 4.45 pm, an unknown caller had made a call to police control room informing about planting of bomb at the Airport.

Valsan said that since the caller did not specify details about the Airport, both the Airports – Manohar International Airport at Mopa and Dabolim Airport, Vasco (South Goa) – were put on alert.

He said that the Mopa Police station was asked to trace the caller. The police managed to track down Kundan Kumar, originally from Bihar and currently working at Manohar International Airport for making the call.

Valsan said that during the interrogation, the accused confessed of making the hoax call and he was in inebriated condition.

The SP said that the medical examination of the accused was conducted and FIR has been lodged under section 505 (1)(b) (causing fear or alarm to public), Section 506 (ii) (Criminal intimidation) and 507 of Indian Penal Code. The accused has been arrested.
