60 samples of sailors tested negative, two being retested due to technical snag

Panaji: Goa government on Friday announced that the blood samples of the Goan crew members on a cruise ship, who were quarantined in the state, have tested negative for COVID-19 infection.

As per Union ministry of Home Affairs guidelines, a batch of 62 crew members from a ship Discovery Marella that was anchored at Mumbai Port  were transported to the state and quarantined in a hotel in Panaji this week.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the blood samples of 60 have tested negative for COVID-19 infection while tests on two more was stalled due to technical snag, which would be completed soon.

Rane tweeted “Samples of 62 sailors were tested at the Virology lab in GMC. 60 samples were reported negative. Due to a technical snag, 2 samples will be retested, reports of which are awaited. We are working tirelessly under the guidance of CM @PramodPSawant.”

Goa has set up Indian Council for Medical Reserch certified virology lab at state run Goa Medical College and Hospital near here.

The coastal state had tested seven people positive for COVID-19 infection, all of whom have recovered and discharged from the hospital.
