26 year old athlete from Bihar collapses during IRONMAN70.3, dies in hospital

Panaji: A 26-year-old man from Patna in Bihar who had collapsed during IRONMAN70.3 race in Panaji on Sunday expired at a private hospital near here.
Superintendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan said that Kamakhya Siddharth, who had collapsed during the IRONMAN 70.3 on Sunday, has expired at a private hospital on Monday.
Valsan said that the deceased had suffered from multiple organ failure.
Sources stated that Siddharth had collapsed during the last leg of the race in Panaji on Sunday.


He collapsed around 3.30 pm, after which he was shifted to a private hospital. Sources stated that he breathed his last at 1.30 on Monday, after unsuccessful attempts by the doctors to save him.
The parents of the deceased are expected to arrive from Patna (Bihar) later during the day.
The athletes from 50 countries had participated in the event on Sunday which began at Miramar beach.
The race was flagged off by chief minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday at Miramar beach near Panaji.


As per the results released by the organizers, Nihal Baig from Andhra Pradesh was the overall first place finisher and led the men’s category with a timing of 04:32:05.
Coming in second in the men’s category was L Biten Singh from Manipur with a timing of 04:39:24 and the third place went to Bishworjit Saikhom from Manipur with a time of 04:42:13.
