World Food Day 2020 Celebrated

Panaji : The Directorate of Food and Drug Authorities organized a function to mark ‘World Food Day Celebration 2020″ at its premises at Bambolim today. The Health Minister, Shri Vishwajit Rane who was the chief guest for the function inaugurated the function.

The theme of the celebration was “Grow, Nourish, Sustain, Our actions are our future” The celebration also focused on five pillars of food safety such as Maintenance of personal hygiene while handling food, Keep cooking and surrounding clean , Follow keys to safer food, Check food for adulteration and spoiling before consumption, Read food labels to know what you are eating.

The Health Minister in his inaugural address called upon the people not to take life for granted. He advised to adopt good food eating habits to keep away lifestyle diseases. Time has come now where we have to work strictly on food safety and FDA in this regard has a important role to play, he said and called for need of awareness among the people about safe and right food habits essential for the longevity of life. He also congratulated the stakeholders of FDA for maintaining first place in the entire country in Food Safety Index under the Eat Right India initiative.

Secretary, FDA Shri Amit Sateja while speaking said that the eating right food with quality and quantity is essential for living healthy. In modern times as our food habits have changed, it has resulted into lifestyle diseases. He suggested to follow precautions and opt for right food to keep away diseases. Shri Sateja congratulated the Director of FDA and staff for making Goa to come first in the entire country in Food Safety Index under the Eat Right India initiative.

The Director of FDA Smt. Jyoti Sardesai in her welcome address said that food is the fuel of our body. Food that we consume has to be safe, nutritious and sustainable.

Smt Sardesai said that the FSSAI has come with out with many initiatives such as Food Safety Index, Eat right India etc. The schemes named were Eat Right Campus, Eat Right School and now Eat Right District Challenge. In this new initiative around 200 district from all over the country have participated in this challenge along with both districts of Goa, she informed

Snt Sneha Sawant gave a brief introduction on Hygiene Rating. Mr Clayton Mascarenhas informed about his RUCO initiative which is the acronym for repurpose used cooking oil. Under this initiative used cooking oil is collected from the hotels and restaurants and converted into bio-diesel.

The FDA conducted hygine rating survey of twenty meat shops and sweet shops out of which Royale Foods, Mishra Pedha and Magsons received hygine rating certificates at the hands of the dignitaries.

Richard Noronha compered the function while Smt. Sanjyot Kudalkar proposed the vote of thanks.
