Panaji: Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim has began harvesting organs of a woman patient, who has been declared Brain Dead.
Sources in the hospital stated that the the organ harvesting is undertaken as per the rules, and this is second such case after State Organ Transport Organisation (SOTO) has been established in the state.
While both the kidneys of the patient would be transplanted on a person on waiting list at Goa Medical College and Hospital, her heart will be taken to Hyderabad based hospital and livers and lungs would be taken to Ahmadabad.
Sources stated that the harvesting is being done under strict protocols as prescribed under the SOTO program.
