Porvorim: A senior minister in Manohar Parrikar led cabinet on Thursday compared the ailing Chief Minister to Jesus for building the bridges and not walls.

Goa Forward Party Chief and State Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai participating in the congratulatory motion on the floor of the House on Thursday quoted Bible saying that “man should built bridges, not walls.”

Goa Legislative Assembly on Thursday unanimously resolved to congratulate Parrikar for building third bridge over River Mandovi which is named as ‘Atal Setu.’

“The 5.1 km longest cable stayed bridge in India which was inaugurated by Manohar Parrikar is actually a technological marvel and the chief minister gave us a message,” Sardesai said in his speech.

“The message given by CM during the inauguration of bridge was to be positive. I think that the message should reach in our House (Assembly),” he said.

“In the Bible there is a saying that Man should built Bridges not walls. Jesus built bridges, not walls. So you need to build bridges,” Sardesai said.

“Manohar Parrikar also built bridges. We were also on the other side. We came this side because of the bridges that he built,” he said referring to his earlier stint when Sardesai was Independent MLA and in the opposition benches.

“What are those bridges. Those bridges are not merely the bridges which we see as third longest cable stayed bridge, or 5.1 km bridge, it is a bridge that goes beyond visual site. It is not only a technological marvel. Manohar Parrikar built bridges with people who are positive,” he said.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Parrikar is Architect of Modern Goa. it is true. whatever infrastructure that is worth noticing that we see has happened during his tenure as CM,” Sardesai said.

The members cutting across party line congratulated Parrikar for the construction of the bridge which was inaugurated in presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

State Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte termed the bridge as “landmark in the State.”

“It is a landmark in the State and dream of Goans that is fulfilled in the form of the bridge,” he said.
