Panaji: Amidst growing pressure to contest Panaji by-election, Utpal, son of former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, has said that he would decide about contesting at the right time.

Section of workers in Panaji BJP has been pressing for Utpal’s candidature in this Assembly constituency, which was represented by his father.

The seat fell vacant after Parrikar’s death on March 17.

“At present I have not thought about it. But I will have to think at the right time,” he said.

When asked whether BJP has approached him with the offer to contest Panaji by-election, Utpal said that he has been mourning period, so there is no such discussion that has happened.

I am still struggling with the grief that struck after my father’s death, that is why I have not yet decided anything, he said.

Earlier this month, BJP Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar had claimed that party’s national vice president Avinash Rai Khanna had approached Utpal and his brother, Abhija, urging them to participate actively in BJP’s work.
