Two booked for threatening senior journalist in Goa

Panaji: Goa police have booked two persons for threatening a senior journalist at Canacona taluka in South Goa on Thursday night.

Deputy superintendent of police (Canacona) Tikam Singh Varma said that two persons Virendra Naik and Naresh Naik were booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code after they threatened a journalist near Pollem check post on Goa-Karnataka border.

Senior journalist Basuri Desai working for a local English newspaper had filed formal complaint against both the accused.

Desai had mentioned in his complaint that when he was working on the investigative story of how sand is being smuggled illegally through Pollem check post.

As per the complaint filed with Canacona police station, the incident happened during mid-might of Thursday.

Varma said that the accused have been booked under section 341 (Restraint), 509 (Insulting modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC against both the accused.
He said that the accused would be arrested if they don’t cooperate with the investigating officer.
