Treatment plants for E-waste, Bio-medical & Hazardous waste soon- CM

Saligao: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that government has finalized places to set up treatment plants for E-waste, bio-medical and Hazardous waste from the State.

Sawant , who visited the Goa Solid Waste Management Plant at Saligao along with Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, took stock of the situation and reviewed the plant progress.

CM said that total of 150 tonnes of garbage from all over the state is treated at Saligao plant per day in a well-processed manner.

“We have finalized few places like Kundaim, Pissurlem and Colvale IDC to set up treatment plants for E-waste, bio-medical and Hazardous waste,” he said.

“So, after two years Goa will be the only state to treat all types of waste,” CM commented.

Sawant also said that Government has also introduced the concept of bio-toilet.

Total 17000 bio-toilets are demanded by various Panchayat from all over Goa.

The cost for General category is brought down to Rs. 4000 from earlier Rs.10, 000, for OBC Rs. 2500 and Rs. 1000 for ST, he said.

 The team of Goa Solid Waste Corporation is working hard in making this possible, so that by July 31, 2019, we can declare the state Open Defecation Free (ODF) state,” the Chief Minister told.
