Panaji: Over 16,000 people are eligible to cast their vote for the elections to the 10 wards of the Taleigao village panchayat to be held on Sunday ( April 28).

There are 28 candidates in the fray.

As per the data provided by the State Election Commission, there are a total of 16,209 voters including 7,845 male and 8,364 female voters in the Taleigao panchayat.

The polling will be conducted in 22 polling booths within the panchayat area, using ballot papers.

Former St Cruz MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate has fielded his candidates under the panel ‘ Taleigao Progressive Development Front’, of which Agnelo Da’Cunha from ward 3 has been declared elected unopposed. Thus the elections will be held in 10 wards, out of the total 11 wards.

The last two elections have seen Monserrate’s panel winning with a thumping majority.

The BJP has not officially fielded it’s candidates this time, however, the BJP has extended support to some candidates who are in the fray.

The SEC informed that around 150 odd government employees will be on the election duty and as per the assessment, every polling station will have a presiding officer, three polling officers, and one peon and the security personnel.

The ballot boxes will be brought back after the completion of the polling process from all polling booths and will be kept at the strong room set up at Bal Bhavan at Campal in Panaji.

The counting of the votes will take place on April 29
