Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday held meeting with officials of NABARD, Directorate of Panchayats, Solid Waste Management Corporation and Municipal Administration to discuss the status of toilets being built up in the State.
Discussing the process of constructing toilets in the state, Sawant informed that government of Goa builds toilet for Goan households under a subsidised rate.
“This facility was available for bio-toilets and toilets built under Sulabh Complex. However, to improve the speed of the construction, the Government will now allow the locals to build their own toilets under the scheme as per the specifications and release the subsidy amount,” the chief minister said.
Adding that this move will boost Swayampurna Goa, a state level campaign to make Goa’s villages self-sufficient, Sawant said, “This move will involve more of Goan labourers, further providing them employment and boosting Swayampurna Goa. This decision shall be amended in the cabinet next week.”
