Panaji: The Counsel for Hindi Actor Prateik Babbar, who was recently booked in connection with motor vehicle accident, has said that “some unscrupulous persons were merely trying to gain mileage and publicity from my client’s celebrity status.”
On Wednesday, Babbar was accused of hitting a two-wheeler and behaving arrogantly with a Goa-based youth Paulo Correa after the accident on Panaji-Mapusa Highway.
Porvorim police station had received the complaint against Babbar, who had also filed a cross complaint against the youth. Both the cases were withdrawn after the aggrieved parties claimed that they had reached an amicable settlement on Thursday evening.
“It was a simple mishap. There were no injuries caused to anyone or anything whatsoever. All the reports alleging rash and negligent driving as well as assault are absolutely untrue and solely aimed at maligning my client’s reputation,” Vibhav Amonkar, the lawyer representing Babbar in this case before the police, has said in a statement released here.
“All the medical tests conducted on my client were negative thereby demolishing all the unfounded allegations,” he said.
Porvorim Police Inspector Paresh Naik had claimed that Babbar, when referred for medical examination at State run Asilo Hospital, had refused for testing of his blood sample. Naik had produced the document signed by Babbar where he had refused to allow the blood test.
“Some unscrupulous persons were merely trying to gain mileage and publicity from my client’s celebrity status. The police after completing all the necessary formalities have compounded the case and closed the matter,” Amonkar said.
“The vehicle involved in the said accident has been released along with all the original documents. It would be necessary to note that Prateik has all throughout been extremely co-operative which has also been acknowledged by the police officials,” he added.
