Several Youth Congress leaders including its National Chief detained in Goa

Panaji: Several Congress leaders including Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas B V were detained by Goa police in Panaji on Tuesday during their protest against rising fuel price and also unemployment ratio in the state.
Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President Varad Mardolkar said that several leaders including Srinivas and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Working President Aleixo Sequeira were detained by police on Tuesday during the protest at Azad Maidan.
Mardolkar claimed that the police even cane charged them at the site of the protest.
“We decided to march towards the official residence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant from the protest site when we were lathi charged,” he said adding that more than 30 leaders including Assam chief of Youth Congress Kamrul Ismal Choudhary were taken into custody.
Reacting to the arrest, former chief minister and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said that the arrest was unawarranted.
“I have been the chief minister of the state during which I have faced several agitations. But never ever we have resorted to such kind of action,” Kamat said. He claimed that BJP-led government was afraid to face the realities and was trying to supress the freedom of the opposition.
