Schools to remain closed in Goa on Friday due to orange alert

Panaji: Goa government has announced one-day-holiday for the schools on Friday, July 4 in view of the incessant rain alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department.
State Education Director Shailesh Zingde, in a circular issued here on Thursday, has said that all the schools will remained closed for a day on July 4.

“In view of the incessant rain and alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, Goa Centre predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the State of Goa and keeping in mind the safety of young children in the schools, it is decided by the competent authority to declare holiday on Friday 4th July 2025 for all the schools in the State of Goa,” the circular reads.

Zingde has also clarified that the holiday is for the students as well as for the teachers, however the teachers deputed for training shall report for training.

“Further, the students are hereby advised to stay indoors and avoid venturing into risky areas such as flooded streets, riversides and other potentially hazardous locations,” the circular adds.

The state has been receiving incessant rains since last two days. The IMD has issued orange alert for rain on July 4 while yellow alert from July 5-9.
The department has predicted heavy rainfall in the state on July 4.
