Margao: Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardessai who rushed to Sonsoddo Tuesday morning as Fomento Green refused to accept Margao garbage from Monday said Fatorda garbage will be sorted out at the SGPDA complex and segregated waste will be given to Fomento Green at Sonsoddo and if they do not accept it then file criminal cases against them, English newspaper O Herald has reported today.
A visibly upset Vijai was shouting at not only the Fomento Green officials but also Margao Municipal Council officials and said the people of Margao were suffering because of the cat and mouse game played by them.
“I fail to understand the need for the second cancellation notice after I and the chief minister Pramod Sawant had discussed this issue with Avdhut Timblo,” said Vijai who asserted that the government was not impotent and will not allow anybody to hold it to ransom and opined that Timblo was trying to maneouver towards a litigation.
“I am not interested in blame game but want a solution,” he said while pointing out that they could have held Fomento Green responsible for the fire at Sonsoddo as they failed to segregate the waste as was envisaged in the concession signed by them which also did not mention segregated waste.
However after inspecting the Fomento Green plant and hearing its officials who said they have no place to accept fresh garbage unless the accumulated around 1000 tonne garbage is shifted from the plant.
Vijai then instructed MMC to take away all the mixed garbage from the plant and dump it near the Komex plant where there was place and said that dumped waste would be treated immediately after monsoons.
He asked the MMC to put a green fence around the proposed pickup stand at the SGPDA ground and sort out the garbage collected from Fatorda there and then give the segregated wet waste to Fomento Green.
“If they do not accept the segregated wet waste then file criminal cases against them,” he told MMC while asking Fatorda Police Station Inspector Salim Shaikh to take note of it and said these changes should be enforced from Wednesday.
He suggested that Margao and Curtorim MLAs be asked to identify places in their constituencies to segregate the waste collected from their respective constituencies.
MMC officials along with Chairperson Dr Babita Prabhudessai and Vice Chairman Tito Cardoso were at Sonsoddo from afternoon to transfer the waste from Fomento’s plant to the place near Komex plant. While initially a strong police force was present as the council had sought police protection the additional personnel left and only five police personnel led by a PSI were there at Sonsoddo.
