Aam Aadmi Party’s Women’s wing has called upon Cortalim MLA, Alina Saldanha, to respond to the grievances of the people of Simpal in Cortalim. Residents have been repeatedly raising the issue of rise in cancer cases after installation of a mobile tower in the area in 2014. Stating that a representation dated 3rd of June 2019 did not elicit an acknowledgment from Alina’s office, aap leader Patricia Fernandes said that the issue was serious enough to merit immediate attention.
“People of Simpal had a simple request. All they want is that their MLA should attend to their grievances. 11 cases of cancer, with two deaths since the time of installation of the tower should have shaken any one’s conscience. Doesn’t it merit to be looked into?” questioned Patricia Fernandes.
Meanwhile AAP has taken up the complaint from the residents about the tower to the Chief Minister and the Health Minister, requesting an immediate investigation of the matter and pending such investigation have requested that the tower be shut down. “Radiation levels have not been monitored since its erection, and has a high probability of being the cause of the drastic rise in breast cancer cases in the area, particularly in the 100 metres radius around it.” Said Patricia
