Benaulim: The polling for the Benaulim Zilla Panchayat by-election has begun, but at a slow pace. MLA Venzy Viegas was among the first voters to cast his vote, accompanied by his wife and mother. Voting is expected to pick up after 10 am as people attend mass in their respective churches in the constituency.
Speaking to GNH, Venzy said, “Let’s maintain unity. There will be a good voter turnout. The message is clear. Today, we must make history again. This vote is for unity. This vote is for togetherness. I appeal to all voters to maintain unity. It is God’s blessing that it has not rained since morning. It will be a victory for Goa and Goans, and a victory for unity.”
INDIA Alliance candidate Joseph Pimenta said, “People will come out in large numbers and vote for the INDIA Alliance. They have told me they will vote for me. There will be maximum turnout in Orlim, Benaulim, Varca, Carmona, and Cavelossim. God is with us. The weather is good and will continue like this for the rest of the day.”
Earlier in the day, Warren Alemao posted a message on social media appealing to people to vote for Independent candidate Royla Fernandes.
Warren wrote: “It’s voting day. Cast your vote for a secular, educated, and committed candidate who prioritizes environmental protection. Your choice shapes the future. Vote wisely! Vote for Royla Fernandes.”
