Opposition tries to raise the issue of scam in the House

Panaji: The opposition parties in Goa legislative assembly on Monday moved an adjournment motion to discuss allegations by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar against minister Govind Gaude.

Tawadkar had accused Gaude of being involved in misappropriation of the funds through his Art and culture department. The speaker had said that the money was disbursed to various clubs and organisations, without they holding the respective events.

Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai had moved an adjournment motion on Monday to discuss the allegations by the Speaker.

When Assembly began on Monday, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao demanded that the discussion should be held on the serious allegations made by the Speaker against the minister.

Alemao said that the this is insult to the Speaker that the issue raised by him is not discussed on the floor of the House.

The speaker refused to allow the motion, asking the opposition benches to sit down and let the business of the House be continued.

Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that this (House) is not the forum to discuss the issue. “The opposition should raise the issue at the right forum,” he said.

The opposition tried to push for their demand but ruling benches continued with the question hour.

The Budget session of Goa legislative assembly began on Friday, February 2 .
