Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on “the Indian state.”

Responding to the speech by Gandhi at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi, Sawant wrote on his X handle, “So, opposing the Indian State itself has become the new agenda of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party!”

During his speech, Rahul Gandhi had attacked RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat, who had earlier stated that India’s independence should be celebrated on the day of the Ram temple consecration and not on August 15.

Gandhi had stated that the comments made by Bhagwat were treasonous and said that the Congress was fighting the Indian state itself and not just the BJP or RSS’s ideology, which had proven harmful to democracy.

The Chief Minister on Wednesday wrote on his X handle, “The Congress party, led by Rahul Gandhi, has forfeited any moral ground to hold or preach the Constitution to others. Earlier, the statement by the South Goa MP, claiming that the Constitution of India was ‘thrust upon them,’ is a glaring testament to the deep-seated disrespect and contempt for India and its foundational principles that cultivates within the entitled dynastic leadership of the Congress.”
