Newly Named streets in Porvorim Inaugurated by Minister Khaunte at Penha de França Panchayat

Penha De Franca, 15th August 2024 – As part of the 78th Independence Day celebrations, Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by unveiling the plaque of newly named Shivaji Maharaj Circle to Art Park Road in Porvorim as “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg.” Additionally, the circle near IHM Porvorim has been designated as “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk.

 

In recognition of the contributions of our great freedom fighters, the road from IHM Circle to Azad Bhavan, the existing service road in Porvorim, has been named as swantrya senani adv Vishwanath Lawande Marg. The road leading from Bank of Maharashtra, Pundalik Nagar, to the Forest Department Garden will now be known as Swatantrya senani Laxmidas Borkar Marg, and the road from Betim Circle to Our Lady of Penha De Franca Church has been designated as Tiatrist H. Britona Road.

The event was held to honor the memory of two illustrious freedom fighters by naming streets after them, Late Shri. Vishwanant Lawande, Late Shri. Laxmidas Borkar and Late Shri. Hermenegildo Camilo (H.Britton), Goa’s state Tiatrist Awardee.

 

Minister Khaunte unveiled the plaques of new street names in the presence of Shri. Kavita Gupesh Naik, Z P Member, Penha De Franca, Shri. Swapnil Chodankar, Sarpanch, Penha De Franca, Shri. Deepali Gurunath Vernekar, Deputy Sarpanch, Penha De Franca, along with other panch members, and descendants of the honored freedom fighters.

In his speech, he paid tribute to the freedom fighters, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the nation’s independence. The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of those who fought for India’s freedom. Minister Khaunte’s participation underscored the importance of remembering and honoring our history, as well as the role of the government in preserving it.
