New Hospicio building to be functional as COVID hospital from coming Saturday: Vishwajit Rane

Panaji: Goa government has announced that its newly constructed building for housing South District Hospital in Margao would be functional as COVID-19 facility from coming Saturday onwards.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, who inspected the new hospital building on Friday, said that the hospital would be made functional partially, which would be extended in a phased manner.

“We shall start operations from next Saturday with 250 beds initially in keeping with our protocols and Standard Operating Procedures and later extend to its full capacity of 556 beds in a phased manner,” Rane told reporters in Margao town, where the building is located.

Goa currently has designated ESI hospital in Margao (South Goa), Goa Medical College and Hospital near here (North Goa) and Sub District Hospital at Ponda (South Goa) as COVID-19 treatment facilities.

Till Friday, State had recorded 24,185 COVID-19 infections of which 5323 were active.
