Panaji: Almost 1178 elected representatives from 188 village panchayats have failed to submit their statement of assets and liabilities for the financial year ending March 2016, before Goa Lokayukta.
Despite several remainders, the functionaries have failed to make the submission, which is mandatory under Gopa Lokayukta Act, 2011.
In a press statement issued today, the Lokayukta Secretary Mathew Samuel has said that non compliance of the requirements would force Lokayuta to publish the names of such public functionaries in newspapers, with report to the Governor as mandated under sub-section (2) of Section 21 of Goa Lokayukta Act, 2011.
Salcete taluka, having 30 village panchayats tops the list with as many as 216 elected members failing to submit their financial statement.
