Margao: The team of Margao Municipal Council today began extensive drive to clean the drainages and upkeep the SGPDA market at Fatorda.
The teams led by MMC Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik and Municipal Engineer Manoj Arsekar began their work early in the morning which continued till late afternoon.
Scores of workers along with senior officials and heavy earthmoving machinery along with trucks were pressed into service.
The operation that began early morning continued till this hour which resulted in heaps of excavated mud, silt, plastic, thermocol etc.
The haphazardly scattered garbage and steel equipment too were lifted. The stagnated water was removed with several trips of night soil tanker. One lady created rocks at the site was too taken away by police who were deployed in sizable number anticipating the situation.
It is reported that the said action is first of its kind ever since the market came into existence.
