Panaji: MGP has decided to take on BJP through electoral battle by fielding their candidates for both the Lok Sabha seats in the State for April 23 poll.
MGP President Dipak Dhavalikar on Wednesday announced that their MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister Sudin Dhavalikar will contest on South Goa seat while former MLA Naresh Sawal will contest in North Goa.
MGP’s decision comes hours after two out of its three MLAs broke away and merged the legislature party into BJP. Two MLAs – Manohar Ajgaonkar and Dipak Pawaskar – claimed that they left the party as they were unhappy over conduct of Dipak Dhavalikar.
Dhavalikar said that the party will also contest in all the three Assembly by-elections – Shiroda, Mandrem and Mapusa.
While Dhavalikar has already claimed that he would be contesting from Shiroda, he said that the party has asked local units in Mandrem and Mapusa to suggest names of the candidates.
MGP President commented that BJP had betrayed their trust, despite being in alliance with them since the year 2012.
He said that the split which was engineered in MGP, last night, was ‘illegal’ and the same would be challenged before authorities.
Dhavalikar said that they would be filing disqualificaiton petition against both the MLAs before the Speaker soon.
“We are currently in the process to file disqualificaition petition before the Speaker against both the MLAs who broke away from the party,” he said.
