Matrucchaya, Kavlem building declared as micro-containment zone, 18 test positive, more results awaited

Panaji:  State Administration on Sunday declared a building housing an reputed Orphanage in the Kavlem village near Ponda taluka as micro-containment zone after 18 people were tested positive for COVID-19 infection.

South District Magistrate Ruchika Katyal has said that 18 cases of COVID-19 positive were found in the girls building of the Orphanage “Matrucchaya” at Kavlem, Ponda.

The Health authorities had taken samples of 45 students and 17 staff who were living in the building located in the village, 10 kms away from Ponda town.

Katyal said that all the 18 positive cases are asymptomatic and they are isolated in the Matrucchya building itself.

The district administration said that the building has been declared as micro-containment zone for all purposes and objectives prescribed in the protocol of COVID-19 to prevent its spread in the adjoining areas.

The government has deployed rapid response team to investigate the outbreak and initiate control measures by assessing the situation.
