Law college student files threatening complaint against Sharmad Raiturkar over CAA issue

Panaji: A law college student from Goa have on Thursday filed a formal complaint with local police against a BJP leader for allegedly threatening him over his comments on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Law college student Prasenjeet Prabhakar Dhage in his complaint to Goa police, copy of which is also marked to President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, has feared threat to his life from BJP leader Sharmad Raiturkar.

Raiturkar is a BJP leader who had contested on party ticket from Margao Assembly constituency during 2017 elections against current Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.

Dhage has said that “in view of the current students’ protests going on against Citizenship amendment bill my friend K. Krubeshwaran had put on Facebook a post which appreciates how Jamia University students cleaned the roads and premises outside the University after their peaceful protests.”

“One person named Sharmad Raiturkar commented with a video that i should be castrated or else this is the fate I will meet , he was referring to a video he shared as a comment on the above mentioned post in that video a mob is seen beating an old man to death and firing bad words while doing so,” reads the complaint.

 “I feel there is a threat to my life as this person who commented was a BJP MLA candidate for Margao  Goa. I feel he can cause injury or even kill me. Iam sharing with you the link and pictures of the comment and the above mentioned post,” he said.

When contacted, Raiturkar refused threatening anyone on the social media. “I had just said that if you all don’t understand the importance of CAA, this is what you might have to face in future,” he said referring to the video that he has posted.
