Panaji: Goa will participate in the three events – Table Tennis, Swimming and Badminton – of Under 14 category for the upcoming Khelo India Games 2022, State Sports Minister Govind Gaude said on Saturday.
After interacting with the players and their parents ahead of the rigorous coaching session planned in Panaji, Gaude said that the coaching for all the three games will start on May 30 or before June 10, for which the required infrastructure is already in place.
Gaude said that Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s Tourist Residency at Miramar would be converted into ‘residence academy’ for the players who will be coached for the upcoming elevent.
The training would be undertaken at Campal Ground, a facility owned by the Sports department, he said.
The minister said that the department has already selected coaches required for the game along with wardens and other staff.
Gaude said that many of the students are not from Panaji. “The government will accommodate them in the schools nearby Panaji so that they don’t lose their academic year,” he added.
The minister said that the aim is to take Sports at next level in Goa and the players from the coastal state should be participating in the sporting events.
Responding to a question, Gaude said that currently on Police department has sports quota as far as recruitment is concerned. “All the other departments should also open up the recruitments under Sports Quota for the players who have played in the National or International events,” he added.
The minister said Dr Pramod Sawant-led government will announce some incentives to motivate the players.
Gaude said that the Sports department will construct Youth Academy within a year’s time where all the facilities required for sportsmen would be made available.
