Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Friday requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to initiate an independent survey on water levels, salinity and impact on aquatic life in River Mandovi, which is also known as Mahadayi.
The lawmakers including MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar had raised concern over the increased salinity of river Mahadayi after Karnataka has diverted the water upstream.
Goa and Karnataka are in a fight over the share of River Mahadayi. Both the states have filed Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court over the share of the water.
Khaunte, who is in opposition benches, on Friday tweeted “Once again requesting @DrPramodPSawant to initiate an independent survey on water levels, salinity and impact on aquatic life in #Mandovi following reduced flow owing to Kalasa diversion. I pledge my full support to @GovtofGoa in this cause.”
Dhavalikar on Thursday had claimed that the diversion of the River (Mahadayi) had resulted in drying up of several other tributaries in Goa.
