Panaji: In response to the Public Interest Litigation filed against the ongoing work of Imagine Smart city Development limited, a initiative of central government in Panaji, the division bench Bombay High Court at Goa inspected the work in the capital city on Monday.

Justices Mahesh Sonak and Valmiki SA Menezes inspected the work of road, sewerage, water pipeline and other infrastructure in Panaji city on Monday.

The officials of Imagine Smart city Development Limited including its Managing Director Sanjith Rodrigues were present on the occasion.

Earlier last week, the HC bench while hearing the Public Interest Litigation had stated “We propose to hear the matter in further detail on 02.04.2024. Before that, we have scheduled a site visit on 01.04.2024 at 5.00 pm, so that we are in a position to understand the issue better.”

Talking to reporters after the inspection, Rodrigues said that the work of smart city was going on as per the schedule. “We have drawn hour to hour schedule of works which is going on at the right pace,” he said.

Panaji based businessman Manoj Caculo told reporters that during the visit the Judges told him that the work would be completed by May 31, 2024.

Caculo told the Judges that if smart city officials fail to complete the work within the deadline they should be given capital punishment.

He said the smart city officials are sprinkling water on the road since last two days because Judges were supposed to inspect the work today.

Rodrigues said that all suggestions of the people are welcome.
“Suggestions have been pouring in, we are working with all the people,” he said.

The case would be heard by the HC on Tuesday.
