Panaji : The Goa Suraksha Manch has condemned the police stomping on protestors calling it ‘Unjust and Undemocratic’ actio of Goa Government against the protestors at Shel-Melaulim IIT.
“Every citizen of India has the right to protest against any social, unjust issue, affecting any section of public or the society at large. The Shel- Melauli issue is also a social, environmental issue, since a large number of farmers in particular and Goans in general are being affected by the upcoming IIT project, which will also affect Mhadei basin and the surrounding area due to deforestation.”
GSM reckons that Goa Government is trying to suppress the lawful and democratic agitation of environmental importance, by misusing the powers, particularly the police force.
GSM has asked the authorities to take necessary action from their end and withdraw the charges against the activists and release them immediately.
