Panaji: The long pending demand of St Cruz locals for a dedicated police station in their area has been kept hanging fire, while the Out Post which is opened in the area has been largely utilized as a back office of Traffic Cell, Panaji.

Director of NGO, Hope Foundation Mr Inacio Domnick Pereira has demanded that the State Home Department should consider setting up independent Police Station for St Cruz, which is currently covered by Old Goa Police Station.

Old Goa is far off from St Cruz and those without any provision to travel are left away from seeking justice, he said.

Pereira said that the information available under Right to Information (RTI) reveals that the Traffic Cell is shifted to St Cruz outpost without moving any proposal by the department.

He said that after the infamous gang-war at St Cruz, then Director General of Police had moved a file to set up dedicated police station. The Home department had refused the proposal. The policemen from Old Goa have to travel all the way to St Cruz in case of emergencies.

Pereira said that the Out Post would not suffice the requirement of law and order in the area. He has appealed the new government led by Dr Pramod Sawant to ensure that the demand of dedicated police station is considered on the urgent basis.
