Goa Tourism To Celebrate The 350th Coronation Anniversary of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj With A Grand Celebration

Panjim- Goa Tourism will be celebrating the 350th Coronation anniversary of the iconic Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with a Grand Celebration on 18th and 19th February 2024 on the occasion of Shivjayanti.The event promises to be a majestic tribute to the revered historical figure, highlighting his valor and legacy.

Hon’ble Minister of Tourism of Goa, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte conveyed through a press conference the details of the itinerary of main event on 18th and 19th February 2024 in Bicholim, in the distinguished presence of Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, MLA of Bicholim and Mr. Premendra Shet, MLA of Mayem Constituency.

On the 18th of February 2024, Bicholim will be abuzz with cultural fervor and excitement as the Akhil Goa Veshbhusha Spardha kicks off. The inaugural program will feature the traditional ‘Deep Prajwalan’ ceremony and an invocation song. The evening will culminate with the All Goa Mahila Fugdi Spardha, celebrating the spirit of womanhood through this traditional Goan dance form.

Moving to the 19th of February 2024, Bicholim will witness a vibrant rally commencing from Bordem, showcasing live characters depicting the coronation act. The rally will proceed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maidan in Bicholim, featuring captivating performances by groups showcasing Dindi, Lezim, Dhol Tashe, Patak, and more.

The evening will be adorned with cultural programs and the distribution of prizes, adding to the festive atmosphere and celebrating the rich heritage of Goa. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Tourism, Mr. Shripad Naik, MP Rajya Sabha, Mr. Sadanand shet Tanavade, Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, Bicholim MLA, Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Mayem MLA Mr. Premendra Shet will be present for the 19 Feb event at Bicholim. A cultural programme MARAHTI PAUL PADTE PUDHE, Mumbai troupe will present at 7 pm at Chatrapati Shivaji Maidan Bicholim.

On 19 Feb evening at Porvorim, as the momentous event will unfold with the unveiling of the Shivaji Maharaj Statue at 6 pm near IHM college. Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, union Minister Shripad Naik, MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade along with Hon’ble Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, Dy, Speaker Joshua D’souza, MLA Saligao Kedar Naik , ZP Kavita Naik, Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Sarpanch Sonia Pednekar along with distinguished Panch memebers will be present for statue unveiling ceremony.

The day’s festivities will continue into the evening, commencing with an inaugural function followed by an enchanting cultural program, featuring performances by Nandesh Umap and Troupe namely SHIVSOHLA, showcasing traditional dances like Lezim and Koli, along with stage performances portraying the legendary figure of Shivaji and more, promising an evening of cultural splendor and historical significance.

There will be an exibition of weapons and coins during Shivaji Maharjas’s regime at DIET hall porvorim. This unique exhibition will be open from 18th till 20th February 10am to 6pm. All schools are invited to witness the exhibition for a unique learning experience.

The Hon’ble Minister of Tourism of Goa, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte stated “As we approach Shivaji Maharaj’s 350th anniversary in 2024, celebratory events are planned across Sanquelim, Margao, Vasco, and Mapusa, Porvorim The celebration will feature cultural programs, performances and more involving youth and local communities to preserve our history for future generations and connect tourists to our identity and heritage. The festivities will include cultural programs and performances that will symbolize Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy and engage the youth and local communities to preserve our history.”
