Goa TMC demands justice for Anita Fernandes, seeks compensation and Governor’s intervention

The Goa Trinamool Congress today extended full support to the family of late Anita Fernandes, a 32-year-old woman who died on January 05, 2023, after a tree fell on her in Sanguem. Goa TMC General Secretary Rakhi Prabhudessai Naik met the bereaved family at their residence in Sanguem and assured them of unconditional support.

Highlighting the plight of the grieving family, Goa TMC General Secretary Rakhi Prabhudessai Naik said, ‘The family is devastated beyond measure by Anita’s untimely demise. Despite giving hollow assurances of cutting the Gulmohar tree, the administration’s insensitive, casual and inhuman approach to the threat has resulted in two children losing their mother.’ She further added, ‘The government must be held accountable for inflicting excruciating pain and suffering onto the family.’

Calling out the BJP-led government’s repeated negligence in protecting Goenkars, Naik said, ‘It is because of the government’s continued inaction that has led to Anita Fernandes’s death who is survived by her husband and two children, an 18 month old baby and an eight year old child.’ She further added, ‘The Government must take responsibility for her death.’

Elaborating a need for a separate fire station, Naik pointed out, ‘Inspite of Sanguem being geographically vast, there isn’t one fire station in the area. We have to depend on Curchorem fire station at times of emergency’ She stressed, ‘The Government must build a fire station in the area to curb the increasing fatalities in the area.’

Tearing into the Pramod Sawant-led government, Naik demanded, ‘We request Honbl’ Governor of Goa, P.S Sreedharan Pillai to intervene and ensure justice is delivered.’ Adding on she said, ‘The government must provide compensation to the family of Anita Fernandes and must take responsibility for her children’s education.’ She further asserted, ‘An FIR must be filed against the officer who failed to address the repeated complaints pertaining to the Gulmohar tree in the area. He must be held responsible for such gross negligence.’
