Teething problems at MIA to be reviewed coming week: Rohan Khaunte

Mapusa: Chief minister Pramod Sawant will State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and other stakeholders on coming Tuesday to discuss about the teething problems arising after the commissioning of Manohar International Airport .

The first flight landed at MIA on January 05 after which the Airport has began operating the domestic flight.

“It is just three days since the Airport has started functioning. There are bound to be some teething problems. We are gathering all the information about these problems and will meet chief minister on Tuesday,” Khaunte told reporters in Mapusa town on Sunday.

He said that State Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho will also be present for the meeting which will also be attended by the stakeholders of this new facility.

When asked about the viral picture showing taxis charging whopping fares for the passengers arriving at this Airport, Khaunte said that he has noticed the viral picture showing Taxi charging Rs 4,000 between the Airport and Benaulim.

“We have asked for the details about the bill. We have to also understand what kind of Taxi was booked or whether it was Taxi or some bigger vehicle that was booked,” the minister said adding that the other options like State-run Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited’s buses are also offered for the passengers.

He said that the Kadamba bus drops passenger to Colva Beach (70kms) for Rs 500 per head, the facility which can be availed by the travelers.

Khaunte said that the state government is open for all kind of suggestions including reduction in the Taxi fares, if they are found to be exorbitant.
