Goa Health department announces advanced treatment for some critical ailments

Panaji: Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday announced various new introductions in the treatments including that of Breast Cancer with the help of world’s leading healthcare company Roche Healthcare.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji on Tuesday, Rane said that the Goa Medical College and Hospital will introduce Pertuzumab Trastuzumab combination, a monoclonal antibody specific for second stage breast cancer patients.
“This advanced treatment holds the potential for a complete cure if administered in the early stages of breast cancer. Remarkably, Goa will be the first state to implement this scheme, offering it free of cost and aiming to set an exemplary healthcare model for the rest of the world,” he said.
Rane also announced an intervention in the Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
“Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a congenital and life-threatening disorder causing progressive muscle weakness, affects four individuals in the state of Goa. The associated therapy’s lifetime cost is often beyond the means of these patients,” he said.
Rane told reporters that the state government run GMCH will provide Risdiplam, an innovative treatment for SMA.
“This novel molecule targets neuromuscular junctions, preventing the destruction of muscle fibers. The therapy will now be available for the four SMA patients in Goa, offering them an improved quality of life,” he said.
In yet another treatment, Rane also announced advancements in Hemophilia Treatment.
“The government has taken significant strides in the treatment of Hemophilia. Free subcutaneous treatment will be provided to 48 listed Hemophilic patients in the state,” he said.
Rane said that this groundbreaking therapy involves injecting ‘Emicizumab,’ a Monoclonal antibody.
“This not only provides a normal life for haemophilic patients but also offers prophylactic treatment, reducing the risks of bleeding-related complications, arthritic issues, and deformities. Goa is the first state to start this free of cost, we can call that haemophilic in future in ghe state will have near to zero bleeds,” he added.
Rane said that these advancement in the treatment are introduced in association with Roche Healthcare, world’s leading healthcare company.
