Porvorim: The Manohar Parrikar-led alliance government on Thursday put up a united face after its cabinet ministers held a review meeting to speed up the implementation of the proposals in the state budget.

The ministers of BJP, Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Independents participated in the review meeting held this morning at Secretariat.

This is for the first time that the cabinet ministers had met together on a common agenda since the last cabinet meeting held in July by the Chief minister.

The meeting was also attended by newly-inducted ministers – Milind Naik and Nilesh Cabral — who were given formal welcome by other colleagues.

The ministers decided to hold review meeting of the implementation of the assurances given by the Chief Minister in the budget on every Wednesday.

Parrikar used to hold his cabinet meetings every Wednesday before he took ill since February this year. The Chief Minister is admitted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi where he is being treated for pancreatic ailment.

“Though Chief Minister is sick, we are working under his guidance and we would be implementing the assurance given by the government in the state budget,” said MGP minister Sudin Dhavalikar.

“We will take stock of the allocation to every department and accordingly take up the proposals,” he added.

Goa Forward Party Minister Vijai Sardesai said that the ministers will meet every Wednesday so that there is review of the proposals.

“The meeting on Wednesday is basically a system that is going be followed to see to it that Goans get good governance they deserve. When we had formed the alliance, our aim was to give stable government with proper governance,” he said.

Sardesai said that the ministers will  decide short and long term goals of each department over next four months and accordingly will make a presentation before the chief minister.

He said that  Parrikar is not well and he is admitted in a hospital in new Delhi. “That is surely going to have an impact of his absence on the governance. We are here to reduce the impact. We would act like shock absorbers,” he commented.

“We have passed the half way through the financial year. We also have a situation where elections are going to come and model code of conduct will be implemented. That may happen in next four months,” he added.

Sardesai said that the government has a race to run and together. “We (government) will run the race very successfully. We will have review meeting with the officials of the government specially certain key departments,” he said.

The minister said that the decision to hold review meeting was “not only to show the strength and unity but something more too.”

“This government is stable. It is not only stable within the legislators of the parties which are supporting us but we have friends outside also,” he added.

“We have the numbers and we can produce it without affecting political instability and without poaching into anybody’s camp,” Sardesai added.

BJP minister Mauvin Godinho said that the stability of any government is of paramount importance.

“We wanted to convey that the government but also to show that it is a performing government. Everything that we are committing all of us together is also on behalf of the chief minister,” he said.

The minister said “somehow when  opposition has no other issue, the sickness of our tallest leader is projected as to say that the government is non functional.”

“We are stable and performing government.  We have synergies are connected well to get more work going on at the ground,” he said.
